Generally solitary barrel with many thin undulating ribs (50-150). Cylindrical 3-4″. Highly variable spination in cultivation so we are not certain of the ID of our specimens. Slow growing, but easy to care for.

Round caudex to 12″. Vining with erect stems and round flat green leaves. Water well when leafed out.

Tacinga inamoena

Charming Opuntia relative with small oblong pads that are spineless and edible. Variable flowers of red and orange in spring.

Shrubby, with many stems/branches. Very spiny, some flexible. Orange flowers.

Thelocactus bicolor

Usually solitary, stems can get 15″ high x 6″ around. Magenta flowers fade to white towards the center, and then get very dark below.

Unusual caudiciform with long strappy leaves related to Aloes with narrow 2″ caudex. Small striped starry white flowers similar to Bulbines. Tuberous roots. Native to dry grasslands.

Large mats of shrubby stems with bristly tips. A low succulent groundcover with lovely pink flowers. Leaves have soft white bristles. Grows a tuberous base that looks great when elevated in a container.

Clumping stemless rosettes to 5″, thick, variable green leaves with spotty white spots/stripes. Slow growing, long-lived.

Tunilla soehrensii

Low growing, stems flattened crescents, long spines. Seeds used for red dye. Flowers are orange to rose-red, bloom in spring. Stems often lay flat and the growth habit can include creeping along the ground and rooting from the pads.

Tylecodon buchholzianus

Natural bonsai, dwarf shrub. Occasional ovoid green leaves on tips of brown branches. Tiny pink flowers. Prefers some afternoon shade in the summer.

Uncarina grandidieri

A winter-deciduous succulent that grows a thick caudiciform trunk over time. Leaves are green, slightly fuzzy to the touch, and scented. Blooms lovely yellow flowers, seed pods that follow are hooked and barbed. Can get to 10ft tall.
