Cardón Grande Flowers
Echinopsis terscheckii, also known as the Argentine saguaro or cardón grande, produces large, striking flowers that bloom primarily in spring and early summer. These funnel-shaped blossoms are typically white and can reach up to 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter. They open at night and often remain open into the next morning, attracting nocturnal pollinators like moths and bats.
The flowers emerge from the upper portions of the stem and contrast beautifully against the cactus’s tall, ribbed body. Though each flower is short-lived, lasting only a day or two, a mature plant can produce many blooms during the flowering season. These impressive flowers not only aid in reproduction but also add ornamental value to this towering desert species.
