New Plants at Cactus Jungle

We are back from Winter Break!

We are open after our well-deserved winter break and are back to growing so many new plants for you that I wanted to tell you all about some of our new plants, but you will have to wait for our February New Plant email because I have to get the store open after being closed for winter break. Did I mention that we are back open? Yes! Today? Yes! All weekend long? Yes!

RARE PLANTS

This Boophone disticha is large and leafy and very intriguing. People often want to know what is going on with this amazing plant. I have no idea – plants!

Haworthia maughanii is thick. This is as good as it gets for a non-hybridized species.

Othonna herrei x cremnophila is a hybrid and we might now know what the flower colors for this hybrid would be, so I could describe the possibilities for you, or you could just look at the d*mn photo and decide for yourself. I think it’s a yellow. Maybe a daisy yellow? Wait…. Are Othonnas in the Daisy Family (Asteraceae, also known as the Aster Family)? Why yes they are thank you for asking. Daisy yellow it is then!

Stapelia scitula are the cutest of the stapeliads, nothing good can come from not appreciating how cute they are.

OK, but what about the Pseudolithos that are also stapeliads (or rather also asclepiads)? They are not as cute. But they are kind of crazy amazing. Cra-mazing. Pseudolithos migiurtinus with dozens of flower buds.

Pseudolithos cubiformis are very low water in winter, please don’t water them unless they are literally crying out for water until we get to summer.

Oh and here’s a photo of the flowers when open, which they are now, for the P. migiurtinus. Stop by just to see the cra-mazing flowers.

Oxalis polyphylla v. heptaphylla is a narrow-leafed sorel. Wild in form, it will bring clarity to your daily social media life.

Mirabilis jalapa is an easy to grow caudiciform with beautiful houseplant leaves and great flowers. Can be grown inside or outside.

MIXED SUCCULENTS

First you get a Rare Plant for this and every gift category for the rest of this email, including for this Mixed Succulents catgegory, that’s the system we are going with this month. This one is the Euphorbia petricola fa. cristata, a weird and very spiny cresting Rock Spurge from the Madagascar island of lost plants.

We are furiously potting up more mixed succulent pots, hopefully we will have the right one for you when you get here.

CRYSTALS

We start the gems and crystals section with a Conophytum christiansenianum but I can’t guarantee I spelled that right.

We are diving right into the Zeolite Crystals today. Such sharp crystalization, bending colors and light refractions. Not in these photos of course, but hold them up to the light and see what happens!

Aventurine Green tumbled minerals. That is a nice shade of green. Pleasant.

Amethyst Clusters, we have a few different sizes, these are the small clusters.

Pyrite! Fools Gold! Sparkly!

I love these natural Garnets, so much color in there.

The Obsidian tumbles are very black with just some trace colors.

SHELLS

What better plant to begin the Shells section than a tortoise-shell plant itself, Dioscorea elephantipes! Wait, elephant-named not tortoise-named? Who knows what the botanists are thinking at any given time, but these are so much like a tortoise-shell that they had bizarrely fallen down on the job when they named this. Should be Dioscorea tortoipes or maybe tortipei. Seems good.

Everyone loves a good Sea Urchin shell, very festive.

Everyone loves a Green Turbo Shell, very literally.

Look, I get it, not everyone loves shells. I may have been projecting there. But you have to love these Spurred Turbans! Wow. We have them individually or in small packs.

ORNAMENTS

Dionaea “Smog” has burgundy centers in the traps. Better to eat flies.  It’s a flytrap, a Venus Fly Trap.

We have bears in puffer jackets ornaments. I am very proud of this selection. People have been known to remark, “You’re very proud of yourself, Peter” and I agree. Bears in Puffer Jackets! Soft.

The rest of the ornaments are hanging around, here are a few. I see there may also be mice in puffer jackets.

TOYS

Euphorbia obesa is a baseball plant and baseballs are toys, I think, so instead of getting your kids balls and bats and gloves or whattever, get them a Euphorbia for fun and profit.

We are known for our selection of highly detailed and true-to-life Dragon toys like this Green Dragon.

Ummm Capybaras anyone?

It’s the latest Tokidoki Unicorno and Mermicorno blind boxes and these are pretty nice, good job!

And for more blind boxes we turn to the latest from Yellco. Always something interesting going on.

POTS

Hoodia flava x pilifera is a stunning African Cactus hybrid. We don’t know the flower colors yet since the parent plants have burgundy and yellow flowers. Will the colors mix? Will they not mix? Mystery.

It’s some new indoor ceramic pots, though we’ve had the whales before. Of all the whale pots we’ve had over the years, and there have been 6 whale pots we have carried, this one has by far sold the most, so we bring it back again due to popular demand, or just popularity since nobody has ever demanded a whale pot, that would be odd.

Small Dojo cylinder pots in subtle colors with saucers included.

It’s our favorite cubes! Bright colors.

And we have more Liberte pots with fun graphics.

CANDLES AND MORE GIFTS

Oxalis lupinifolia has beautiful bluish-green clover leaves and stunning photogenic flowers.

We start off our new candles for this year with the Happiness Candles. Autumn scents are appropriate.

What about other scents, do they have others? Yes there are other year-round scents too. Smell them for yourself. Fallen Leaves is my favorite.

Leather Wrist Bands – it’s been a few years since we carried them, but then I thought it was time to bring them back. These are from a new Leather company, Range Leather, and they are a very solidly nice fit.

Local scents from California’s own Candlefy include the very local Mt. Tam which is pretty darn fresh.

Ohh, Endless Summer sounds like the right candle for something I’m sure you can figure it out.
