Grows in dense thickets. Small leaves, do not persist. Avoid frost. Can form trees to 20ft in habitat. More water when hot in summer, keep dry in winter.

Globose, 12″ x 4ft. tall. Variable spine color from red to brown to gray. Bright red tubular flowers.

Didierea trollii

Rare. Sprawling stems with long spines and small oval green leaves. Deciduous in winter. Upright branches can reach to 10ft. More water in summer when leafed out, less in winter when dormant.
