Morning Bloom

Echinocereus armatus
The bloom is just starting to open in the morning sun and will be fully open in a couple hours, only to close again in the late afternoon.

Thanks. And here I thought it was an extremely odd photo.

It looks kind of like a spiny teddy bear with a giant gaping mouth and a strange starfish creature coming out it's throat. Or is that just me?
