Blue Eyed Grass

Sisyrinchium bellum
These great native grasses get about 18" tall, and bloom in late winter, i.e. now. The 4" starts have about 6 blooms each started, while the gallon plants are going nuts with literally dozens of blooms ready to open. They do want a full sunny day or they just won't open.

This is a beautiful photo of an unfamiliar grass. I imagine it is gorgeous planted en masse.

They get so many blooms, that a decent clump is just covered in them. But I prefer the yellow-eyed grass, S. californicum, which is smaller and blooms in summer, because of the intensity of the yellow. It's stunning.
