Thursday, November 15. 2007Green Roof in PittsburghThere's nothing I like better than a cute little green roof. This one is in Pittsburgh.
![]() Photo: Robin Rombach/Post-Gazette The "living roof" of the Shadyside home. The roof deck is off of the master bedroom and is planted with succulent plants that will stay green all winter. Green roofs -- plots of plants atop homes or commercial buildings -- are more than gardens in the air. They act as air-conditioners, solar collectors and rainwater diverters.... Sedums dominate because they are drought-tolerant, winter-hardy succulents that require almost nothing to survive. Now, it looks to me like there are some grasses mixed in with those green sedums, not that there's anything wrong with that. A fine example to the neighbors, and everyone else too. Trackbacks
